Thane: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Wednesday questioned the silence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde over the planned Mumbai-Thane entry point toll rate hikes that is likely to pinch citizens from the city starting next month.
Avinash Jadhav, MNS Thane-Palghar president warned of a bitter protest if, the hike which will be anywhere between Rs 5 to Rs15 for one way access at all five entry and exit points of Mumbai, is implemented from October without a discussion.
“Shinde had made tall promises in 2014 for abolishing the toll once his party came into power. However, it’s been so many years, and now that he is the CM, we want to request him that if he is unable to stop the toll taxation, he should at least spare us from any hike which will make commuting costlier,” Jadhav said while talking to the media.
Jadhav on Wednesday visited the toll plaza on the Thane-Mumbai fringes and appealed to the staff to communicate with their respective bosses that his party will not tolerate the hike. He also sought clarity on why the toll was being charged if all the roads in Mumbai including the highways were being maintained by the BMC.
