KOLKATA: The sexual assault and murder of the seven-year-old girl in Tiljala was a planned crime, with the accused, Alok Kumar Sah, having stalked the child for at least two weeks, police said.
Alok had clicked her photographs and studied her movements, especially her whereabouts on weekends, the probe revealed. Cops said Alok had chosen the day of the murder carefully.
“Alok Kumar Sah had been targeting a Sunday as the garment factory on the ground floor of the building stayed shut on that day. On other days, the workers start arriving from 7.30am,” said a senior investigator. He, claimed sources, had also thought of a secret place to hide the primary weapon, a hammer. So much so that even after 48 hours of his arrest, cops could not find it till late on Tuesday. A forensic team visited the crime spot for the 2nd day and cops found his mobile.
He has reportedly been constantly trying to pin the murder blame on a tantrik. “He told us he met the tantrik at Nimtala Ghat through a family member. The trantrik, he said, promised his expecting wife would have a son if he could sacrifice a girl during Navratri,” police said. Alok has told police he had shown the girl’s photograph to the tantrik ahead of the “sacrifice”. He claimed he could not muster the courage to kidnap and murder the girl but the tantrik “advised” him to get high on ganja and go ahead with the “offering”.
But, police said, they were not quite convinced. “He is evading the question on why he sexually assaulted the girl. Also, none can be found at central and north Kolkata ghats, fitting his description of the tantrik. A team visited Tarapith but to no avail. A team may leave for Bihar,” a cop said. Police are likely to record the girl’s mother’s statement before a magistrate.
