Chennai: Hours after meeting chief minister M K Stalin, Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore George Antonysamy said there was attack on minorities in several states across the country, except for Tamil Nadu. He also sought the consolidation of Christian votes in the state.Antonysamy who presided over the special Christmas Day service in St Thomas Cathedral Basilica in Santhome, Chennai, on Thursday, spoke about violence targeting minorties. He said violence was unleashed on minorities, sometimes with the backing of those in power, “but not in TN.” He said the minorities are safe in TN. The archbishop also read out a few media reports on attacks on Christians in India. Antonysamy cited a recent incident where a man selling Christmas goods and gifts was threatened by a mob in Odisha. He also referred to a few other incidents that happened in other states and asked for the consolidation of minorities in TN.Antonysamy also spoke about the importance of votes. He told the congregation in the church to ensure that their names are present on the voters’ list after the SIR exercise and that their vote is their weapon. Earlier, George Antonysamy, along with Rev Fr Dr Vincent Chinnadurai, the current Rector and Parish Priest of the Santhome Cathedral Basilica, met Stalin at his camp office in Chennai and exchanged Christmas wishes with him on Wednesday evening.
