Thane: The crime branch has arrested the fourth accused, an auto driver, in connection with the murder of MNS functionary Jamil Shaikh in 2020.
The police said the arrested accused has been identified as Wasim Ansari alias Wasim Bhishi (29) and is a resident of Rabodi.
“Ansari played an important role in the murder of Shaikh and gave the logistical support to the accused who planned the murder. The other accused too named him for his role in the case,” said a senior police officer.
The police had earlier arrested Shahid Shaikh and Irfan alias Sonu from Gorakhpur with the help of Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force. And, last month, they had arrested the third accused Habbibulla.
The police said that one other accused who is the key conspirator is still absconding for the last three years. “The police are on the lookout for him,” said a senior officer.
It was on November 23, 2020, when MNS functionary Jamil Shaikh was shot dead in broad daylight in Rabodi in Thane city.
While Shaikh was riding a scooter, the shooters followed him on a bike and fired a bullet at him. The kin of the deceased had earlier demanded the case to be handed over to the CBI.

Chennai: Cops gun down 2 rowdies accused in murder of AIADMK functionary
Two rowdies, wanted in connection with multiple cases including murder, were shot dead by police in Avadi, Chennai. The suspects, Muthu Saravanan and ‘Sunday’ Sathish, were believed to be involved in the recent murder of an AIADMK functionary. Acting on a tip-off, the police located the rowdies in a dilapidated building and a confrontation ensued, resulting in the rowdies opening fire and injuring three policemen. The police retaliated, injuring the suspects who were later declared dead at a nearby hospital. An investigation is underway to determine the source of their weapons.

A court in Thane, Maharashtra has granted anticipatory bail to a man accused of attempting to murder a hotel owner. The court stated that if the accused, Aakash Baban Rasal, is arrested, he should be released on bail on a personal recognizance bond of Rs 15,000. The main accused in the case had already been released on bail. The court observed that there was insufficient evidence against Rasal and that he did not participate in the assault on the victim.
