Man kills minor sister for ‘honour’ in Bihar, buries body in riverbed | Patna News

PATNA: A man allegedly strangled his minor sister to death before burying her body in the riverbed in Bihar’s Madhubani district in what police describe as another case of “honour killing”. The police have arrested the accused and sent him to jail.
Police said Neelam Kumari, 15, a resident of Laukaha police station area, had gone out to offer prayers to a local temple in the evening of October 21 when she went mysteriously missing.
Subsequently, the family members launched extensive searches for him for the next two days but unable to trace her, her mother Fulo Devi eventually reported the matter to the local police.
Soon after receiving the complaint, the police swung into action and during technical surveillance, the needle of suspicion moved towards the victim’s elder brother Om Prakash Yadav.
“Initially, he tried to mislead the police but eventually he confessed to killing his sister and burying her body in the riverbed,” Laukaha SHO Santosh Mandal told the TOI on Friday.
“During interrogation, the accused told us that he saw his sister in a compromising situation with a local youth that day and in a fit of rage, strangled her to death before burying her body in the riverbed,” the police officer said, adding the accused had been arrested and sent to jail.
Incidents of honour killings are quite common in the state. In September this year, another teenaged girl from Darbhanga district was allegedly killed by her family members who were not happy with her love affairs with a local youth, police said.
Similar incident was reported from Sitamarhi district where a woman along with her two sons were accused of strangling her daughter to death in a suspected case of honour killing in July this year.
