Kolkata Durga Puja pandals to feature displays on preventing avoidable deaths | Kolkata News

KOLKATA: During this year’s Durga Puja in Kolkata, some prominent pandals will feature displays and stalls that educate festival-goers about how to prevent avoidable deaths. The Avoidable Deaths Network (ADN), an organization working on issues such as snakebites and drowning cases, has partnered with three puja organizers – Maddox Square, Jodhpur Park, and Suruchi Sangha.
These stalls will showcase ADN’s research products, including materials on how to prevent deaths caused by drowning, snakebites, and post-abortion complications during disasters. Additionally, the stalls will offer first aid services for pandal visitors and provide wheelchair facilities for senior citizens.
ADN has been running awareness campaigns in New Town, a rapidly developing area near Kolkata, to address the increasing number of snakebite cases and related deaths.
Snehendu Koner, ADN’s regional coordinator, hopes that the messages from these awareness campaigns will capture the attention of pandal visitors, especially those from districts with a high incidence of snakebite cases.
