‘Japanese agency interested in supporting climate projects in Odisha’ | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik and the state government delegation held a meeting with the senior leadership of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and discussed various upcoming social-sector and infrastructure projects in Odisha on Wednesday.
The JICA leadership reiterated their commitment to supporting infrastructure development in the state.
Amid speculation that Odisha may try to seek help from JICA for the proposed metro train project in Greater Capital Region comprising Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri and Khurda, given the fact that it had given soft loans for Delhi Metro, a government officer said there was no specific discussion on the Metro project.
“With JICA the discussion was on the ongoing projects and also future partnerships. They were quite impressed with the Odisha development programmes and the fiscal management. They expressed their desire to work in partnership with many other projects, especially related to climate change mitigation and disaster management,” a senior government officer said.
JICA has been providing financial aid to Odisha for integrated sanitation improvement projects in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur and Rourkela.
