In Thane, man gets 5 years’ rigorous imprisonment for abducting and assaulting constable | Thane News



THANE: Aggrieved by a police constable for checking his car, a man abducted and assaulted the on duty constable in 2017 has been convicted and sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment by the Thane sessions court.
The accused Ali Rajak Pathan, was convicted by additional sessions judge Rachna R Tehrawho also imposed a fine of Rs 1500.
Two other accomplices of the accused identified as Rahul Rama Thorat and Gajanan Khandare escaped when the trial started and are still absconding.
ED Dhamal, the prosecutor told the court that the victim, a police naik attached to the Thane city police was on duty on July 05, 2017 and at around 12.45am, while he was on patrolling duty at Bhayanderpada he spotted a car that was parked in a suspicious manner.
He approached the vehicle and began enquiring about the occupants and went into the car to check for documents, when the accused he was pulled him into the car and drove the vehicle towards Gaimukh.
The accused allegedly warned the policeman not to raise an alarm and manhandled the constable. They also warned him that they would push him out from the running car.
The constable managed to escape during a scuffled between hi, and the accused Pathan. Due to this the car went and rammed into a tree following which the occupants got out of the vehicle and escaped. A total of eight witnesses were examined to prove the charges against the accused, Dhamal informed TOI. The judge relied on the deposition of the prosecution witnesses and held the accused guilty of the charges and sentenced him. In the order, the judge mentioned that in regards to the other accused, the evidence pertaining to the case be preserved and the concerned police station is directed to trace them and produce them in the court. API Dinkar Chandankar of the Kasarvadvali police station carried out the probe into the crime and arrested Pathan.
