Chennai: DMK organising secretary R S Bharathi said Annamalai’s disparaging remarks about Dravidian stalwart C N Annadurai only indicated that the BJP was “marching towards its death” in Tamil Nadu. Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Sunday, Bharathi said it was because of Annadurai’s ideology and struggle that people from backward sections grew in Tamil Nadu, enabling Annamalai to become a police officer.
Bharathi said Annamalai’s remarks only reflected his ignorance about Annadurai. Quoting a Tamil proverb, Bharathi said it is not surprising that Annamalai was not aware of the contribution of the Dravidian icon to Tamil Nadu. “He should ask his grandfather and learn about the contributions of Anna,” he said. Simultaneously, Annamalai should also know that the people of the state will not tolerate anyone denigrating Anna or Periyar, he said. tnn
