KOLKATA: Officers of the customs (preventive) in Kolkata on Wednesday seized the skin of a Royal Bengal tiger and a pair of black buck antlers when a smuggler was trying to cross the India-Bangladesh border near Bhatgachi village in Krishnanagar division of West Bengal.
The smuggler fled leaving the articles as the officials chased him.
Customs officers laid a discreet naka near Bhatgachhi village and spotted a person at 2pm near a border-side village.
He was carrying a bulky bag.
The officers came out of hiding and rushed towards the man.
Sensing trouble the man let go of the bag and ran towards the border. The officers chased him but he managed to flee.
Upon opening the bag officials recovered a Royal Bengal Tiger skin with original teeth and nails and a pair of black buck antlers.
Customs (preventive) has seized nine exotic birds, four rare Vietnamese apes recently and has also seized 43 exotic birds this month.
