MUMBAI: A 20-year-old woman lost her life after being knocked down by a BEST bus at Malwani early on Saturday. Farheen Khan, the victim, was on her way to college, police said. A case of rash driving and negligence has been registered against the bus driver.
The incident occurred at 7.50am near Malwani bus depot. Bus no. 207 was being steered by driver Mahadev Sasane from Malwani depot towards Gaikwad Nagar bus station. The bus was taking a left turn at the bus station’s ‘Out’ gate when it knocked down Khan.
Her brother, Sahil, later told the police in his statement that Khan had left home around 7am for college and the bus hit her from front. She was rushed to the Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali with serious injuries. She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The incident was reported to the Malwani police by Sasane’s colleague from the BEST. Khan’s body was sent for an autopsy. Police checked CCTVs in the vicinity before registering a case. BEST officials confirmed the fatal crash.
