MUMBAI: A 15-year-old girl died by suicide by jumping off a seven-storey building in Mumbai’s Malad on Saturday.
Police said she had run away from home allegedly after her parents took away her phone to discourage her from spending long hours on social media.
The girl was a class IX student. She lived in Malwani with her parents and sister. She was undergoing treatment from a psychiatrist for a mental health condition.
According to the police, she had run away from home on a previous occasion as well. The police had found her and counselled her before reuniting her with her family at that time. On Saturday, she ran away from home a second time.
Police said she did not leave behind a suicide note. As her family is grieving, their statements will be recorded in a few days. A case of accidental death has been recorded by Malwani police.
