Celebs, gaming company get notices for ‘misleading’ ad | India News

NEW DELHI: The consumer protection watchdog has slapped notices on gaming company Lotus 365 and three celebrities, including actors Nawazuddin Siddique and Urvashi Rautela, for endorsing the company’s “misleading” advertisement. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has sought response of the firm and celebrities before initiating action against them.
Sources said the CCPA took suo motu cognisance of the advertisement published in newspapers and on online platforms, which claimed the firm is “India’s most trusted sports exchange since 2015”. They added that the company has been asked to furnish details of the proof of its claims and the celebrities endorsing it have also been asked to respond how they found the company’s claims are correct before endorsing them.
The consumer affairs ministry had asked celebrities to carry out “specific due diligence” while endorsing products or services.
