BHIWANDI: An FIR was registered against the 70-year-old owner of a building that collapsed last week in Bhiwandi, killing two people and injuring five others.
The accused has been identified as Kanij Fatima Abdul Momin.
The police registered an offence of negligence causing death in connection with the deaths.
The Bhoiwada police, probing the case, said that Kanij in 1984 purchased the Gauripada-based room from Abdul Faki and on the same room constructed two floors illegally which she had given on rent to many people.
The same building collapsed on September 3, killing two, including a woman and an eight-year-old girl.
The probe revealed that despite building residents’ complaints about the dangerous condition of the structure, Kanij did not repair the building and it collapsed.
