COIMBATORE: The district crime branch (DCB) of the Coimbatore rural police arrested a 24-year-old woman on Thursday for swindling Rs 73 lakh from the account of a fuel outlet at Chettipalayam from 2019-2022.
The woman bought 10 cents of land in Karachery village near Kinathukadavu for Rs 20 lakh and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) worth Rs 19.5 lakh.
The police seized land documents, the SUV, Rs 90,000 in cash and two sovereigns of gold ornaments from her.
The arrested woman was identified as Kousalya, 24, wife of Mathivanan of Kinathukadavu on the outskirts of Coimbatore. She was working at the petrol bunk run by Rajkumar, 55. She was handling the online digital payments and the payments done through the point of sale (POS) handheld device.
She had diverted some amount to her bank accounts. She managed to swindle Rs 73 lakh for the last four years. However, the owner of the fuel outlet was not able to find the cheating.
A few months ago, Rajkumar came to know that Kousalya had diverted Rs 73 lakh to her accounts from the accounts of the fuel outlet after his son Srikanth, an engineering graduate, audited the accounts of the outlet.
Rajkumar approached the district crime branch police on Thursday.
The police registered a case against the woman for cheating and arrested her. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Kousalya had not gone for work for the last one year. She was studying undergraduate course in a college in Coimbatore city.
She was remanded in judicial custody.
