According to Professor Bogin, not being loved by a child’s nearest and dearest and lacking any hope for the future can cause “toxic emotional stress” that can harm the body, “including blocking hormones needed for growth and height”. So, along with factors like genetics and healthy diet, children need love, hope and happiness to develop properly.
“If you don’t have security, healthcare, education and you worry about the future, you can’t have hope and that is what leads to chronic toxic stress,” the expert added.
