NEW DELHI: Ahead of Dussehra and Navratri celebrations at Red Fort and in Chandni Chowk, Delhi Traffic Police has imposed certain restrictions and issued an advisory asking motorists to avoid some stretches as large gatherings are expected there from the weekend.
Senior officers have also asked those coming to north Delhi to travel by public transport to avoid traffic.
According to police, three major Ramlilas are being organised by the Luv Kush Ram Lila Committee, Shri Dharmik Leela Committee, and Nav Dharmik Ram Lila Committee at Madhav Das Park and 15th August Park. The programmes will be held every day from 6pm onwards until October 25.
“As these three Ramlilas are attended by a large number of visitors and the crowd is expected to swell October 20 onwards, in order to ensure smooth regulation of traffic in the vicinity of Red Fort, special arrangements have been made. General public is hereby advised to use the services of Delhi Metro and other public transport facilities to reach these venues,” said a senior police officer.
The police advisory mentions that traffic on Netaji Subhas Marg from Daryaganj will be diverted towards Nishad Raj Marg in case of congestion. Traffic coming to Red Fort from Chatta Rail will also be diverted to Salimgarh bypass and Mahatma Gandhi Marg in case the traffic is heavy on NS Marg. The advisory further stated that diversion of commercial vehicles and buses will be planned depending on the traffic flow in front of Red Fort.
“All devotees and visitors are advised to use the metro to reach Ram Leela venues. The nearest metro stations are Red Fort and Jama Masjid on the Violet Line and Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazaar on the Yellow Line. Using public transport is more feasible since parking will be a challenge. Commuters are advised to avoid NS Marg in front of Red Fort during the late evening hours. Those using app-based cabs are advised to choose drop and pickup points like Chatta Rail or Daryaganj for hassle-free movement,” the officer said.
