THANE: A 36-year-old man was arrested by the crime branch in connection with the murder of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) functionary Jamil Shaikh in 2020. This is the third arrest in the case.
The accused identified as Habib Shaikh was arrested in the wee hours of Sunday, said a senior police official.
Earlier, two accused identified as Shahid Shaikh and Irfan alias Sonu were arrested from Gorakhpur with the help of Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force, informed a police officer.
The officer added that Habib Shaikh is one of the key conspirator in the case and they have ‘clinching evidences’ against him.
Jamil Shaikh was shot dead by the shooters while he was on a scooter in Rabodi area of Thane on November 23, 2020.
BJP MLAs Niranjan Davkhare and Sanjay Kelkar had raised this issue in the various assembly sessions.
One other key conspirator accused is said to be absconding.
