KALYAN: A case of a teacher allegedly assaulting at least 40 students with steel and wooden rulers has come to light in a private school in Dombivli. Some of the students have suffered minor injuries.
Police registered an FIR against the teacher, Nilam Bharmal, after parents of the children staged a protest in school on Friday.
Police sources said after the teacher joined S H Jondhale Vidyamandir School, Dombivli (West) last week for mathematics, the students complained that she did not teach well.
Parents who had gathered at the school on Friday said two days ago some students told the teacher that they could not understand what was being taught and she reacted by “assaulting” one of them. The student’s parents then complained about the incident to the school administration.
Parents suspect that the teacher might have “got angry” over their complaint, as on Thursday she “assaulted” at least 40 class 5 and 6 students in their classrooms.
Mohan Khandare, senior inspector of Vishnu Nagar police station, said, “At least 40 students have complained to us about the assault. Based on one of the students’ complaint, we have registered an offence against the teacher under Section 324 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 24 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Further probe is on.”
Meanwhile, after the incident, the school administration apologised to the parents and said they have suspended the teacher.
