Tamil Nadu: Tambaram corporation performs birth control surgery on 383 dogs | Chennai News

CHENNAI: In a span of two months, the Tambaram Corporation‘s public health department captured 398 stray dogs and performed animal birth control (ABC) surgery on 383 dogs.
Covering an area of 87.64 sq km, the Tambaram Corporation has around 80,000 dogs within its jurisdiction.
Due to the absence of effective sterilisation programs, the stray dog population has seen an increase.
A senior official said, “The stray dogs were safely captured and sent to animal birth control shelters in Anakaputhur, Bharathipuram, and Gundamedu.”
The corporation’s health department is planning to complete 6,000 animal birth control surgeries by the end of the year. Besides the three existing ABC shelters, one more shelter is planned in Thiruneermalai, said the corporation’s chief health officer.
