CHENNAI: A 36-year-old man murdered his four-month pregnant wife by setting her on fire following a domestic quarrel at Maraimalai Nagar in Kancheepuram district on Thursday night.
Police said Rajkumar and Nandini, 28, got married seven years ago in Manali. The couple has a six-year-old son and Nandhini was four months pregnant now. Rajkumar was jobless and was staying in Govindapuram near Maraimalai Nagar. The couple had a fight over his drinking habit for the past one year.
On Thursday, Raj Kumar kicked her on her stomach doused her with kerosene before setting her afire. He then fled the scene with his son.
Hearing Nandhini’s screams, her neighbours rushed to her house, rescued her and sent her to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital. As she had 90% burns, Nandhini succumbed to her injuries later. On Thursday evening, police traced and arrested Rajkumar and remanded him in custody.
