CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Wednesday announced a 4% dearness allowance hike for government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners.
The chief minister had earlier announced that the government would fulfil the demand of the government employees and teachers to immediately announce dearness allowance hike as and when the Union government announced the rate revision for its officials.
“The chief minister has ordered that the dearness allowance shall be enhanced from 42% to 46% with retrospective effect from July 1, 2023,” said an official statement.
The hike would benefit 16 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners.
“This will incur an additional expenditure of Rs 2,546.16 crore. But the government will allocate the additional funds for the benefit of employees, teachers and pensioners,” the statement said.
“Despite the severe financial crisis and debt burden left behind by the previous government, the state government is working to fulfil its promises in a phased manner to meet the various demands of government officials and teachers,” the statement added.
