Tamil Nadu BJP seeks NCSC probe after school wall collapse kills boy near Chennai | Chennai News

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu BJP on Wednesday sought a probe by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) and criminal action against govt officials over the death of a schoolboy after a wall collapsed at a govt school in Tiruvallur district. Rohit, a Class XII student from the Scheduled Caste community, was killed when a school wall gave way, which the party said was due to administrative failure, inefficiency, and negligence. Party spokesman ANR Prasad said responsibility lay with officials tasked with maintaining school infrastructure.

BJP said repeated infrastructure-related incidents at govt schools pointed to gaps in funding for repairs, delayed renovations, and the absence of regular safety inspections. It cited a Dec 3, 2025, incident in which a compound wall collapsed at Anjur Government Higher Secondary School in Chengalpet district, and an October 2024 balcony wall collapse at Old Ayakudi Government Primary School in Pazhani, Dindigul district. Though those incidents caused no deaths, Prasad said they should have triggered a statewide safety audit of rural schools.
