NEW DELHI: A man was arrested on Saturday in connection with the killing of a woman, a Swiss national, whose body was found near a Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run school in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area.
The accused, identified as Gurpreet, was nabbed based on technical and manual intelligence.
He is being questioned to ascertain the identity of the woman and details linked to the crime.
The accused had reportedly met the woman in Switzerland.
On Friday, the woman’s body, tied up in iron chains, was discovered outside a government school. There were visible signs of torture on the body, which was also partly packed in a plastic bag.
The probe has revealed that the woman was killed elsewhere and brought to the spot in a white Santro car. Two suspects, including the turbaned man, were seen in the CCTV footage.
The woman’s limbs were tied with a chain and lock. The body was decomposed, indicating she might have been killed 24-48 hours before being found. According to the police, the upper part of the body was wrapped in a big, black polythene bag.
The body had blisters on both legs and cut marks on the left wrist. The body was in an almost decomposed state, and there was a strong stench. The eyes were open and had popped out, suggesting strangulation, said Vichitra Veer, DCP (West).
Police said that revenge and hatred as a motive seemed apparent, going by the condition of the body. However, the burn marks also prompted an investigation into the possibility of human trafficking.
