Chennai: Police who registered a case of suicide in the October 14 death of a 37-year-old electrician have now altered the case and launched a hunt for Manali-based construction firm owner Shanmugasundaram, his son Rishi and their employees Vadivel and Sundaramurthy for abetting the suicide of V Saravanan.
Their involvement came to light after doctors who performed the autopsy of Saravanan, found injuries and bruises on his thighs and legs.
Police said Saravanan, a resident of Kavangarai in Puzhal who was employed at Venkateshwara Constructions in Manali, was on October 14 found hanging by his wife S Sathya in their home.
Police sent the body for an autopsy to the Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital where doctors found injuries on the thighs and legs.
Subsequent inquiries by a team of police officers revealed that Shanmugasundaram suspected Saravanan of stealing brass utensils from the company. Then, Shanmugasundaram, his son and two employees bundled Saravanan in a car and thrashed him at a secluded place. After he was let off, Saravanan committed suicide by hanging.
Following the revelation, Puzhal police altered the case from unnatural death to the abetment of suicide on October 18. All the four suspects are absconding
Saravanan is survived by his wife Sathya, 32, and their nine-year-old twin children.
