MUMBAI: The Western Railway (WR) is planning to run two special trains, including a Vande Bharat Express, between Mumbai and Ahmedabad ahead of the India-Pakistan cricket World Cup match in Ahmedabad on October 14.
This is the first time that the WR will run an inter-city train for a sports event.
A fully air-conditioned train will depart from Mumbai around 10pm on October 13. “It will reach around 6am,” said an official. A source said the Vande Bharat Express train is expected to leave Mumbai on match day, in the morning, so that spectators can reach Ahmedabad well in time at the Narendra Modi stadium in Motera. The match is scheduled to begin at 2pm.
The timetable and the halts are yet to be finalised, destinations like Surat, Vadodara, Anand and Bharuch are expected to be on the list.
The regular Vande Bharat Express train departs from Mumbai Central at 6.10am at all days barring Wednesday, while Shatabdi Express leaves the same destination at 6.20am on all days with the exception of Sunday.
