CHENNAI: Southern Railway has achieved a record single day earning of Rs 22.7lakh by levying fine on people for ticketless travel and for irregular travel at five railway stations in the zone on October 15. The feat was achieved by 31 ticket checking flying staff who registered 3,508 cases.
The checking drive was conducted at MGR Chennai Central, Perambur, Erode, Coimbatore Jn and Ernakulam Junction stations.
During the current financial year from April 1 to October 15, Rs 57.48 crore has been collected as penalties from passengers for various offences by registering 10.39 lakh cases in Southern Railway.
The cases include travel without tickets, irregular tickets and unbooked luggage, said a press release.
Chennai Division collected Rs 11.01 crore revenue which is the highest ticket checking revenue among the divisions in April-October 2023.
