Security guards bash up New Town complex resident | Kolkata News

KOLKATA: Trouble broke out between a group of residents and office bearers of a New Town complex over payment of maintenance, leading to a fight between a resident and a group of security guards. Both parties have filed separate police complaints.
On Thursday, Praveen Kumar, a tenant at Uniworld City complained that he and his wife were assaulted by a group of security guards. The latter were demanding payment of common area maintenance charges due for three months, which Kumar told them was paid but probably not updated in the system.
“They banged at my door, physically abused me and then dragged me to the basement and then to the garden and assaulted me till I lost consciousness. I feel scared and am afraid to walk outside our home,” said Kumar, a doctor living on rent at the complex for four years.
An FIR was drawn up against six security guards after Kumar’s complaint. As cops began a probe, the guards filed a complaint against Kumar, accusing him of misbehaving and assaulting one of their men first, when the guard had gone to Kumar’s flat to demand maintenance payment under RWA instructions. “Two complaints have been registered and we are probing both,” said an officer.
On Sunday, some residents took out a candle march at the complex in protest against the incident. TOI tried to contact the RWA, but none answered calls or texts.
