THANE: A security guard has been in Thane district for allegedly assaulting an 82-year-old woman and stealing jewelry worth Rs 3.2 lakh.
The incident occurred on September 19 in a housing society in Bhayandar town, and based on a tip-off, the police took Rajendra Bahadur Kumwar (42), a native of Nepal, into custody.
According to deputy commissioner of police Zone I, Jayant Bajbale, an unknown individual entered the elderly woman’s residence around 10pm while she was alone, assaulting her and absconding with jewelry valued at Rs 3.2 lakh.
Subsequently, the Navghar police registered a case under section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in the commission of robbery) of the Indian Penal Code and initiated an investigation.
Upon reviewing CCTV footage in the vicinity and interviewing residents, it was discovered that the security guard had not reported for duty since the day of the incident. Acting on this information, the police located him in the Salasar area and not only apprehended him but also recovered the stolen valuables.
