MUMBAI: A man who assisted arrested drug racketeer Lalit Patil (37) to go into hiding has been arrested.
The accused — identified as Sachin Wagh (30), a resident of Nashik’s Pimpalgaon in Wakhari — was a chauffeur who drove Patil from Nashik to Surat after he escaped from Pune’s Sassoon Hospital on October 2.
Wagh too was brought from Bengaluru along with the seized SUV.
Wagh is the 16t arrest in the case.
Joint commissioner of police (Law & Order) Satyanarayan Chaudhary said with Wagh’s arrest, Saki Naka police have made a total of 16 arrests in the 151 kg mephedrone drug worth Rs305 crore that was busted at Patil’s Nashik unit on October 6.
“Wagh will be produced before the local court on Friday to get his custody. All angles are probed to get in-depth details about the drug haul,” said Chaudhary.
On Wednesday night, the Saki Naka police team seized the SUV vehicle that Patil had used to travel from Nashik to Chalisgaon in Jalgaon district and from there he headed to Surat.
Three days later, he drove to Dhule, then Solapur, before heading to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh and he was finally nabbed from a restaurant in Channasandra, said a police officer.
