Rescue: Sisters Rescue 8-foot-long Python Found In Hsg Soc | Thane News

THANE: Two brave sisters returning from the airport in the wee hours of Monday rescued a huge and bulky python that slithered into their residential complex in Vasant Vihar, said residents.
Sheetal Koul, who stays in the Garden Enclave society, was returning home with her sister, Komal Koul, who had just arrived from the US when they spotted a roughly eight-foot-long python sluggishly ascending the motorable ramp leading to their building. The sisters immediately alighted from the car and alerted the building watchman and the supervisor who started looking for means to ensure the bulky snake didn’t enter the nearby foliage.
“We realised the snake must be looking for a hideout and would most likely stray into the nearby garden or the play area or may sneak into some parked vehicle nearby. Our intention was to not just safeguard our neighbours but also to ensure the animal wasn’t harmed in any way,” said Sheetal, who, in the meantime, alerted office bearers of the housing society.
While one of the security guard’s lowered one of the trash cans, Komal used a stick and tried to nudge the reptile inside the can but it refused to move. “We were terrified as the snake initially kept on hissing aggressively whenever we gently tried to push it inside the can. Finally, after it slithered inside, we immediately shut the trash with a lid and also placed several heavy stones on the cover to prevent the animal from escaping. “We received the call and one of our volunteers, Shivam Dubey attended it. The Indian rock python weighed 11 kg, was released in the green zone the following morning and forest officials were also informed,” said Rohit Mohite and Aaditya Patil of the Wildlife Welfare Association.

The zoo has faced previous complaints and raids, and there are concerns about the legality of keeping exotic species. The BMC has written to the police, demanding action.
Transfer station not yet functional, trucks dump waste on nearby plot
Residents of Govindpuram in Ghaziabad are complaining about illegal garbage dumping on a disputed plot next to a non-operational waste transfer station. They have demanded that the authorities shift the dumping site elsewhere due to sanitation and health hazards. Despite complaints and protests, the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) has not taken any action. The waste transfer station is located in a densely-populated area, and residents fear that once it becomes operational, more trucks will contribute to the nuisance. GMC officials claim that the station will be hygienic and not impact nearby residents.
