Ration cards won’t be cancelled for not recording fingerprints of all family members, TN minister says | Chennai News

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu minister for food and civil supplies R Sakkarapani on Tuesday announced that ration cards will not be cancelled for not recording fingerprints of all family members.
The Union government has asked the ration cardholders to update biometric details, including fingerprint details, of all family members. Workers have been instructed to collect the fingerprints whenever the beneficiaries come to the shops. However, in some places, the shops have wrongly said the beneficiaries can get the ration only if all family members have updated their biometric details.
“Ration cardholders can update their details to their convenience. If they cannot register, we will conduct special camps. If needed, the workers will go to their houses. There is no need to panic. The cards will not be cancelled. They can visit the fair price shops and get their ration as usual,” the minister told the assembly.
