Kolkata: A snatcher, identified as Faizal Rehman, has been arrested from the New Market area following a complaint filed by a woman who alleged her chain was snatched around Mahalaya when she was in the area to shop.
Cops used CCTV footage to identify the culprit. Police are probing Rehman’s involvement in other snatchings in the area. He was produced in court and taken to police remand till November 2.
Following interrogation, police have learnt that Rehman lifts expensive mobile phones from crowded areas like markets and bus stands.With inter-state gangs back in action after the Covid break, cops in plainclothes have been deputed at market places to look out for repeat offenders.
