Over 200 exhibitions, conventions planned at Delhi’s Yashobhoomi in 2 years

NEW DELHI: The commissioning of the Yashobhoomi conference complex at Dwarka will take place in October. A Korean operator has been appointed on a revenue-sharing model to manage the exhibition halls and convention centre, said officials. The first phase of the project was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi last Sunday.
Over 100 exhibitions and more than 100 conventions have been planned at Yashobhoomi in the next two years with the focus on different sectors, including digital innovation, hospitality, entertainment, health care, automobile, infrastructure and travel and tourism.
Sumita Dawra, special secretary, department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT), said, “A Korean operator was selected through international bidding to run the complex on a revenue-sharing model. The commissioning date for Yashobhoomi is October 1.”
Described as India’s largest convention and exhibition centre by Rajesh Kumar Singh, secretary, DPIIT, Yashobhoomi, built at a cost of Rs 25,000 crore is spread over 221 acres. The first phase comprises two exhibition halls, a convention centre with a capacity of 11,000 people and an underground parking with a capacity of over 3,000 cars.
The two exhibition halls, which measure 32,000 and 28,000 square metres, can be converted into eight smaller halls. The main auditorium at the convention centre has automated retractable seating with a capacity of 6,000. Officials said that a bullet-proof area near the auditorium can provide security to VVIPs.
In the second phase of the project, a multi-purpose arena, three exhibition halls, eight hotels, nine grade A offices, three retail spaces and one service apartment have been planned.
The conference and exhibition hub is located conveniently around 10km from Indira Gandhi International Airport and is also connected with the Urban Extension Road and Dwarka Expressway. It has direct connectivity with Delhi Metro through the Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25 metro station of the Airport Express Line, also inaugurated by the PM on Sunday.
