NEW DELHI: Over 20 leaders and office-bearers from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Northeast Delhi have officially joined the Congress, and more are expected to follow suit in the coming days, according to party officials.
The group includes former Delhi Congress secretaries Kuldeep Bhati and Yogendra Bhati, as well as block ex-president Mahendra Kumar, all of whom left the AAP to join the Congress.
Arvinder Singh Lovely, the chief of the Delhi unit of the Congress, had previously called upon leaders and workers who had left the party to return.
A senior Congress leader mentioned that there are more individuals expected to join the party in the near future.
When asked about the potential impact on the opposition alliance in India, the senior leader stated that the Congress is focused on strengthening its presence in the national capital. The decision regarding alliances will be made by the party’s high command, and the party will abide by that decision. The party’s primary goal is to bolster and rejuvenate itself, the senior member explained.
Lovely criticized both the BJP and the AAP, alleging that their disputes have hindered development projects in the national capital. He accused the BJP of promoting division and hostility in society, while asserting that the AAP has shirked its responsibilities by blaming the BJP for the delay in development projects.
