‘Odisha low pressure may bring in more moisture’

KOLKATA: A low pressure area over Odisha is likely to continue bringing in moisture to southern Bengal districts, including Kolkata, till Saturday, after which the skies are likely to clear up. This could lead to showers till Saturday, said the Met office.
“The area of low pressure formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal a few days ago has been moving towards Odisha since then. By Friday, it is likely to move into Chhattisgarh before settling in Madhya Pradesh,” said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) director GK Das. As a result, rain spells of the same intensity and frequency as Thursday are likely to continue for another one or two days, producing between 10 and 15 mm of rain each day.
The consistent showers have brought down the mercury four notches below the normal maximum temperature – to 28.8° Celsius – on Thursday.
The skies were overcast across Kolkata and 13 mm of rain was recorded at Alipore. Despite late-night showers, the minimum temperature on Thursday remained near normal at 26.6° Celsius. The rain was heavier in the neighbouring Howrah – 16 mm.
