Nine die in cracker unit explosion near Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu | Chennai News



TRICHY: At least nine people died and five others suffered injuries in an explosion in a country cracker manufacturing unit in Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu on Monday.
Sources said a private country cracker manufacturing unit at Viragaalur hamlet near Vettriyur village was producing crackers for local events and temple festivals.
The explosion happened around 10am, and a fire broke out.
Fire service vehicles from Ariyalur and Perambalur districts rushed to the spot. Five severely injured people were rushed to Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital.
Expressing grief over the accident, chief minister M K Stalin announced a solatium of Rs 3 lakh each to the families of deceased victims, Rs 1 lakh each to those who were severely injured and Rs 50,000 each to the victims who sustained minor injuries in the explosion.
The CM said ministers S S Sivasankar and C Ve Ganesan had been directed to oversee the rescue measures at the explosion site.
