NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad questions authenticity of wagh nakh weapon attributed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

THANE: NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad on Wednesday questioned the authenticity of wagh nakh claiming that they were never used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
This comes close on the ground of Shiv Sena-UBT MLA Aditya Thackeray also recently questioning if the weapon was indeed used by the Maratha warrior.
Awhad was addressing the media and INDIA alliance activists in Thane where he announced onstage that the wagh nakh which was being brought to India amid fanfare by the government was “fake”.
“The log book at the London museum does not have any mention about the wagh nakh being used by Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Several prominent historians have also denied it was ever used by him. The museum says the weapon was found with the ruler of Satara,” said Awhad.
The Shiv Sena reacted sharply and warned Awhad to refrain from playing with sentiments of the people. “We are not surprised that Awhad raised questions on the authenticity of the wagh nakh as people like him have always questioned Maharaj and even doubted his lineage. They have never accepted him totally. What else can be expected from him? He (Awhad) should respect the people’s sentiments and not use it for his political gains,” said Sena spokesperson Naresh Mhaske.
