Mumbai has already got 75% of September rainfall | Mumbai News



MUMBAI: While a yellow alert persists for Mumbai until September 18, suggesting that the rainy conditions may continue, the city has already received nearly 75% of its total monthly rainfall.
The required rains for the month of September stands at around 360 mm off which the IMD Santacruz observatory has so far received 268 mm. Weather officials anticipate that the city is likely to meet its monthly rainfall over the next two weeks. Unlike the month of August this month has been comparatively much wetter. Last month the total rains received for the month was 177 mm thereby making it unable to meet the monthly rainfall target of 566.4 mm.
The IMD in its five day forecast has stated that Mumbai is expected to see heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on September 17, Sunday while on September 18 moderate rains are expected. From Tuesday onwards there is a green alert forecasting light to moderate rains for the city. Meanwhile in case of Thane and Palghar there is an orange alert issued for September 17 indicating heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places. The intensity of rains in these two districts is also forecast to reduce from September 18 onwards.
The reason for the alerts issued by the IMD officials said, is a well marked Low Pressure Area which lies over west-central Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood. As of Saturday, water reserves in the seven lakes supplying Mumbai stood at 97% capacity.
