MUMBAI: The air intelligence unit (AIU) of customs arrested a 20-year-old man for smuggling 3.5 kg of gold worth Rs 1.67 crore in Mumbai.
On specific intelligence, the officer of AIU intercepted Alsiban Majed who arrived from Bahrain and walked the green channel without disclosing that he had brought dutiable goods.
Officials said that due to festival season, the huge differences of price as compared to other countries and plus 18% GST are attracting smugglers to take the risk.
