A bench comprising Justice A S Bopanna and Justice Bela M Trivedi will continue the hearing of the petition filed by Satyendar Jain and his co-accused, Ankush Jain.
Previously, on September 25, the Supreme Court extended Satyendar Jain’s interim bail until October 9, cautioning him not to use the ongoing proceedings in the apex court as a tactic to delay the trial in the money laundering case.
Jailed AAP leader Satyendar Jain admitted to Safdarjung Hospital
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleges that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader has been seeking repeated adjournments in the trial court under the pretext that his bail application was pending before the Supreme Court.
The ED claims that Jain has obtained as many as 16 adjournment dates from the trial court.
On May 26, the Supreme Court initially granted Jain interim bail for six weeks to undergo spinal surgery, emphasizing a citizen’s right to receive treatment of their choice at a private hospital, at their own expense. This interim bail was extended until September 25 on September 12.
The ED had arrested Satyendar Jain on May 30 of the previous year on charges of money laundering through four companies allegedly linked to him. The arrest was made based on a CBI FIR filed against him in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
It’s worth noting that he had already been granted regular bail by the trial court on September 6, 2019, in the case registered by the CBI.
