KALYAN: Fed up with the treatment of his 10-year-old mentally challenged daughter, a drunk man strangled her to death in Dombivli.
Manoj Agrahari, 38, has been arrested on the complaint of the girl’s mother Lilavati. Lavli was being treated in a hospital in Thane and Manoj was finding it difficult to meet the expenses. Frustrated, he used to say, “There is no use of a retarded daughter, she should be killed.”
Lilavati was always worried about her and would not leave Lavli alone. Even after going to work, she used to pop in home and keep tabs on her. On Sunday evening, however, Manoj returned home drunk and finding Lavli alone, he strangled her with a scarf.
After committing the murder, Manoj ran away. But before escaping, he sent a message to his wife through other wor-kers claiming that he had found their daughter dead at home.
Lilavati rushed home and found Lavli lying dead. She filed a complaint of murder against her husband. “After receiving her complaint, we sent out a team that nabbed Manoj and arrested him under murder charges,” said Suresh Madane, senior inspector of Man-pada police station.
The Agrahari family lives in Mangaon in Dombivli and has been struggling financially. Lavli was the second of Manoj and Lilavati’s 4 daughters.
Manoj is an alcohol addict and worked as a helper in a grocery shop. He would often beat his wife, who works in a factory, and sometimes attack even the daughters.
