KOLKATA: A 32-year-old auto driver stabbed to death his 21-year-old wife at Haridevpur‘s Dolly Villa on Sunday night. Accused Suvendu Das had reportedly consumed poison after stabbing his wife. He, too, was battling for life till reports last came in.
The incident, police said, took place at 10.15pm. Suvendu allegedly had a tiff with his wife, Krishna, and stabbed her multiple times, witnesses told police. Alerted by her cries, locals, along with police, went to their house and took Krishna to MR Bangur Hospital where she was declared dead. Suvendu was found lying beside Krishna, frothing from his mouth and motionless, said police sources. He, too, was shifted to hospital. Police said he was unconscious and that chances of his survival were very low.
According to local sources, Suvendu and Krishna got married a year ago. It was a “registry marriage”. Suvendu drove an auto on the Tollygunge-Behala Chowrasta route.
Krishna’s family, who stayed at Sodepur Ramkrishna Nagar in Haridevpur, did not agree to this marriage. The couple then moved out and started staying at Dolly Villa. A few months later, they filed for divorce.
Police said it was evident that Suvendu had consumed poison after stabbing his wife. The families have been informed. Cops said they were yet to receive any specific complaint. But based on the stab injuries on the victim, they will initiate a murder case.
