Man abducts wife, stepson, takes them to mental hospital, booked | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: A woman has lodged a complaint against her husband and relatives for forcibly abducting her and her son from Kurla Pheonix mall. She has alleged that they were taken in an ambulance to a rehabilitation centre Khalapur in Pune where she was forced to undergo treatment for mental illness and was also made to sign blank papers.
Based on the complaints of the 37-year-old, the Ghatkopar police have booked her husband and kin for abduction and criminal intimidation. According to the woman, she was married to a man who died in 2006 from whom she has a 16-year-old son. In 2008 she married her current husband. The couple has two daughters. “The complainant has alleged that her second husband used to harass her often demanding she get money from her parents. Tired of his behaviour she filed a divorce petition in a family court in Bandra in 2020. She started staying with her kids in Pune and since then the husband had been harassing her, asking her to withdraw the divorce petition or he would declare her as mentally unsound,” said an officer.
The court also held a counselling session for the couple. On the counsellor’s instance, she met her husband at a coffee shop at Phoenix Mall, Kurla where he threatened her again. She told police that the husband forcibly took her elder son and made him sit in his car in the parking lot while she was waiting near the main gate where two ambulances arrived.
At her husband’s behest, two women nurses caught her and put her in the ambulance and when she tried to call the police control room they took away her mobile phone. “On investigating we found substance in the complaint and were able to corroborate the evidence. An offence has been registered against 4 persons including the husband,” said an official.
