Mamata Banerjee says BJP playing dirty game with ED raids on opposition leaders | Kolkata News

NEW DELHI/KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday launched a vitriolic attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government over Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids against opposition leaders and multiple issues, saying the party is “playing a dirty game“.
A spirited Banerjee, recovering from a knee injury that has kept her sidelined for almost a month, passionately claimed that the BJP, like the capricious medieval ruler Mohammad bin Tughlak, was endeavoring to reshape the nation’s history through a string of poorly thought-out actions, such as demonetization and the implementation of the GST.

The TMC leader also criticized the decision by NCERT to utilize the term ‘Bharat’ rather than ‘India’ in school textbooks.
“BJP claims ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas,’ but in reality, it signifies ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Satyanash,'” Banerjee declared emphatically during an impromptu press conference conducted at her residence near the Kalighat temple.

On Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at the homes of TMC minister Jyotipriya Mallick and several others as part of their investigation into the alleged multi-crore ration distribution scandal.
Additionally, the ED also carried out searches at the properties of Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra in Jaipur and Sikar in connection with a money laundering investigation related to the alleged leaked exam paper case.
“‘Kya atyachar, kya anachar chal raha hai?’ (What atrocities, lawlessness are occurring?)… BJP is engaging in a devious strategy under the guise of ED raids on opposition leaders nationwide in anticipation of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. I want to inquire whether there has been even one such raid at the residence of any BJP leader?” she inquired.
The chief minister also warned that she would initiate legal action against the BJP and the ED if any harm befalls Mallick during the searches at his residences in Kolkata.
“Jyotipriya Mallick is in poor health. I will file a police complaint if any harm comes to him during the ED raids,” Banerjee stated.
