THANE: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced a substantial allocation of Rs 60,000 crore for a range of development initiatives in the Marathwada region.
Speaking at the annual Marathwada Muktisangram event in Thane, Shinde expressed the government’s unwavering commitment to eliminate all vestiges of underdevelopment in the region.
“We are resolute in bringing Marathwada into the spotlight. During a cabinet meeting, projects worth Rs 45,000 crore were approved, in addition to the previously sanctioned Rs 15,000 crore for the water grid. We are confident in eradicating all signs of backwardness from this region. The proposed Nagpur Goa Shaktipeeth highway will also be beneficial for this area,” Shinde affirmed.
Addressing criticism of the “government at your doorstep” initiative, he countered by stating that nearly 1.7 crore people have already benefited from it, with the numbers continuing to rise. Additionally, Shinde unveiled a preventive health check-up scheme for the elderly, to be named after Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray.
Shinde also took a dig at the previous MVA government, highlighting the “failed attempts” to rename Aurangabad and Osmanabad.
“Our sincere efforts to rename them as Chattrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Dharashiv yielded results as we followed the proper procedures. Some people were comfortable working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic and fostered an atmosphere of fear, while other regions had resumed normal activities. After assuming power, I discontinued all Covid-related meetings but continued to monitor the situation. We also reinstated all festivals, encouraging people to leave their homes,” he stated.
