Maharashtra: Bhiwandi Ganesh Mandal creates replica of Maha Mrityunjay Temple having 126 feet Shivlinga | Thane News



BHIWANDI: The Bhiwandi based Ganesh mandal has created a replica of Maha Mrityunjay Temple dedicated to Hindu God Shiva, situated in Nagaon, Assam, which is world’s largest Shivlinga, at the height of 126 feet.
The mandal has created same height replica which is attracting devotees from across Bhiwandi as well as neighbouring cities. The mandal had called artist from West Bengal who worked two months day and night to create environment friendly replica.
Santosh Shetty, president of Dhamankar Naka Mitra Mandal and Swabhiman Seva Sanstha told TOI, “Every year we create replica of some famous temples or some famous places and before creating it we first send our team to these places. After taking permission they study about the places and their history so that alongwith replica we can also give visitors knowledge about the place”.
The mandal alongwith decoration is also famous for different social activity throughout 10 days in which it’s drawing competition organised in name of late country’s president Dr Abdul Kalam is being appreciated by devotees as well as city residents. More than 4,000 students from all communities participate at a single time in the drawing competition under one roof.
The mandal is celebrating its 35th year. It earlier had created replicas of Ram Mandir, Somnath Mandir, Akshardham temple, Jagganath Puri and several other temples.
Mandal’s treasurer Dilip Potdar said, “To create environment friendly replica, we used 20,000 bamboos, 7,000 meter clothes and 10 tonne sticks and 30% of materials we refused every year”.
