CHENNAI: Chief minister M K Stalin on Wednesday informed the Tamil Nadu assembly that he has issued orders to suspend the controversial Ambasamudram assistant superintendent of police Balveer Singh.
There were complaints against Balveer Singh that he had plucked the teeth and squeezed the testicles of several people in police custody.
Responding to a special calling attention motion brought by the opposition and alliance parties, Stalin said Balveer Singh would be suspended.
“I have already informed the assembly that the state government will not make any compromise on the human rights violations at police stations. On those lines, I wanted to inform you that I have issued orders to suspend the Ambasamudram ASP,” said Stalin.
The issue was raised in a special calling attention where most of the leaders, who spoke on it, demanded that the state government remove the ASP from service and take criminal action against him.
Stalin said after the complaints on custodial torture were received, Balveer Singh was immediately kept on waiting list and an inquiry by Cheranmahadevi deputy collector was initiated. “After receiving the inquiry report, appropriate action will be taken on those involved in the incident,” said Stalin.
