KOLKATA: The city cops have nabbed a 29-year-old youth who had been cheating US residents – especially those at Baltimore – for the past three years. The tip-off had come from the FBI. Accused Danish Ahmed (29), a resident of Beniapukur, was nabbed from near Circus Avenue on Tuesday around 11.30pm.
“During a search, Rs 4.9 lakh in cash and 13 costly wrist watches of some popular brands, believed to have been purchased by the proceeds, were seized,” said DC (cyber) Atul V. The accused might have also bought a costly foreign car from the proceeds, said sources adding that a search for the same has begun.
“While investigating a call centre fraud, FBI sleuths had come to know that Danish, often posing as Austin Parker, had cheated at least five US victims initially from December 29, 2021 to March 3, 2022 and then again in February this year,” said DC Atul.
“During a search, Rs 4.9 lakh in cash and 13 costly wrist watches of some popular brands, believed to have been purchased by the proceeds, were seized,” said DC (cyber) Atul V. The accused might have also bought a costly foreign car from the proceeds, said sources adding that a search for the same has begun.
