KOLKATA: A 70-year-old man from Kolkata, afflicted by the rare condition of eosinophilic duodenal stricture alongside chronic pancreatitis, is on the road to recovery following a critical surgery at a city hospital.
Eosinophilic Duodenal stricture is characterized by duodenal inflammation and an excess of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell that supports the immune system. In this particular case, chronic pancreatitis added further complications, obstructing the passage of food. This condition had rendered the patient incapable of consuming solid food for several weeks, making even a liquid diet a challenge.
Upon the patient’s daughter’s return from the Czech Republic, she rushed her father to IRIS Hospital in Kolkata’s Baghajatin. The critical surgery was successfully performed on August 15, and the patient was discharged five days later with a schedule of regular follow-up.
“I could have sought treatment for my father anywhere, but I chose to return to Kolkata, placing my trust in the doctor and the city’s healthcare infrastructure. My trust has been reaffirmed, and now my father is well, able to eat and drink without any difficulty,” said the daughter, who revisited the hospital for a check-up on Friday.
